Our team of the Ayurveda Shunyata Villa ~ Sri Lanka
The team of Ayurveda Shunyata Villa consists of friendly and loving staff. Except of our management and hospitality services we hire only locals, most of which are with us since the opening of our resort.
- Guest Services & Management
- Ayurveda Doctors & Therapists
- Yoga, Tai chi & meditation
The management and our guest relation of the Ayurveda Shunyata Villa are happy to be the right place for all your wishes and requests. We accompany you lovingly through your Ayurveda cure. With empathy, we are there for you during your Ayurveda holiday to find with you sustainable solutions at all levels – adapted to your individual wishes and needs for a healthy, happy life full of vitality.
Our Ayurveda doctors are very experienced and dedicated Sinhalese who will look after you with serenity and expertise. The eight Ayurvedic therapists of our team are highly skilled, have many years of professional experience and are trained comprehensively on a regular basis. Their work is based on all common Ayurvedic treatments.
Our Ayurveda therapists have deliberately chosen the small resort of the Ayurveda Shunyata Villa to express the whole scope of their skills. Here they have enough time and leisure to perform individual and intensive treatments.
Since they have high demands on the quality and authenticity of their work, the Ayurveda therapists appreciate the ongoing trainings in order to better meet the specific treatment needs of us “Westerners”. This includes, for example, the constant deepening of knowledge and application of Marma treatment and classic and current methods aimed at the deeper connective tissue and fascia.
Yoga, Tai chi & Meditation
Our Singhalese yoga teacher, Sanjeewa Jayabandu, is with us for many years now. As a former Buddhist monk, Sanjeewa could gain many years’ experience in Vipassana, Metta and many other forms of meditation. He worked for more than 18 years as a certified Yoga, Tai chi and meditation teacher on a self-employed basis at selected locations and Ayurveda resorts in Sri Lanka and since December 2014 works exclusively for Ayurveda Shunyata Villa.
“I attended my first retreat at the age of 16 years at the Kanduboda Siyane International Insight Meditation Center. Under the guidance of my teacher, Venerable Pemasiri, I ordained at the age of 19 and then worked at the Lanka Vipassana Bhavana Meditation Center in Colombo. My name at that time was Venerable Galle Samkicca. As a Buddhist monk, I was a teacher for Metta and Vipassana meditation, among others. I left the convent in Colombo to deepen my practice in a monastery in the forest near Galgamuwa in Sri Lanka. With the help of the villagers, I lived there partly on my own, on other times with other monks together in the forest. At the age of 26 years, I left the monastery and started on my path as a yoga and meditation teacher outside of religious life.
When I had my first contact with yoga I was 14 years old. My grandfather was a respected Ayurvedic doctor, and so I grew up in an atmosphere in which the holistic approach to life was part of my daily life. From the beginning on, my motivation was to live a healthy and independent life, up to the moment in which each one must let go again. So, I started practicing yoga. Initially just for myself with the help of newspaper reports and books; later in my life I had the opportunity to meet some very special yogis from different traditions and to learn from them. All these experiences have influenced my way of teaching, and do so very strongly until today.
Even in my time as a Buddhist monk I practiced yoga, at that time especially inspired by the Yoga teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar.
I deepened my knowledge in various aspects of yoga and when I decided to give up my life as a monk, it was clear that I continue my practice and would like to share my experience in Yoga and meditation with other people.
I have now been working for more than 18 years as a teacher for Yoga, Tai chi and meditation. For more than 10 years I was Senior Yoga and meditation teacher in the executive team of a leading Ayurveda hotel in Sri Lanka. Then, for more than 5 years, I ran my own Yoga and meditation center. My heart has eventually led me to the Ayurveda Shunyata Villa.
In the Ayurveda Shunyata Villa – naturally as Yoga, Tai chi and meditation teacher – I am at the service of our guests, especially and intensively within the “Yoga & Ayurveda Retreat“. At the same time, I work as a consultant in the management team of the resort.
I have great confidence in life itself, I firmly believe that we as humans are able to live healthy and be happy. This basic trust, I live and experience for myself for so many years now, and I just want to share these experiences. Actually, I don’t like the term “teacher” so much, I rather want to be a “spiritual friend” for all the people who are on their own quest for a healthy and satisfied life.”
